Jacob and Anita

Our family consists of Anita, Jacob, and our dog Woofie. The words that best describe our family are loving, warm, supportive, funny, and laid-back. We enjoy spending time with friends and family, going out for walks and dinners, playing games, and traveling to fun locations like beaches and theme parks. Jacob is a fan of gaming and reading, and Anita enjoys TV and craft projects. Both of us enjoy kickboxing for fitness, and unwind/destress with TV, books, and taking time to play with and walk Woofie. We have several traditions that revolve around travel, such as seeing our families during the holidays and going to the beach on the weekend of wedding anniversary. We have also tried going abroad every other year or so, but due to work most of our trips are over extended weekends or holidays.

Anita is a clinical pediatric pharmacist at a children’s hospital within a larger university system. Her job is to advise the medical staff on drug use and to ensure that every child receives the correct dosage of their medication. She tackles the toughest drug problems in the hospital and is highly regarded by the medical teams she works with. Jacob works as a medical librarian in the same university system. His job requires him to round with medical staff to offer point-of-care information support, as well as to support medical students, residents, and doctors with their research. Anita has a PharmD degree (Doctor of Pharmacy) degree and two years of pharmacy residency practice, and Jacob has two master’s degrees (English; Library & Information Science).

Our family lives in the suburbs of a small southeastern city. The area is very diverse in race, religion, and economic status. We live in a four-bedroom home with two floors, a fenced-in backyard, and garage. We like to decorate the inside of our home for the holidays and put up photos, posters, and artwork on the walls. Our home is often described by others as “cozy” and “comfortable.”

Adoption is something we have considered for a long time. We sincerely and passionately believe that every child should have a loving family regardless of their circumstances or where they come from. Choosing to put your child up for adoption is a difficult choice but one that we understand is a choice made from love. Working in a children’s hospital setting has shown Anita that there are so many children out there who need a family to support them, and Jacob has long agreed that adoption is an option that people should consider more often. As such, we feel adoption is the perfect way to grow our family. We will be telling our child that they were adopted from the very start, so they understand that there is no shame or issue with that fact, and we will tell them everything we know about their birthparents as they get older and become curious about it.
